Abstract

This study examined the role of social media in shaping national identity and values among Omani university youth. It emphasized the importance of guiding young people in using social media responsibly within Omani society. The descriptive-analytical method was adopted as appropriate for the research objectives. A random sample of 150 male and female students from Omani universities was selected. The research tool was a questionnaire with demographic data and three thematic dimensions. Results showed no significant differences between males and females in the impact of social media. Age groups, however, revealed varying levels of influence on national identity formation. No significant differences were found across educational levels. Overall, social media had a positive role in reinforcing identity and national values. The study recommended promoting positive values through awareness campaigns and curriculum development.
